Updates 2012-02-14

Happy Valentine’s Day, Folks!

Patch Tuesday is here again.

This month Microsoft released nine updates addressing 21 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, .NET/Silverlight, Visio, Indeo codec, SharePoint, as well as an update to MSRT. One of the updates is not selected by default, so please ensure you ‘enable’ this update when you install them.  This includes security updates. Get ’em now! A reboot is required.

Apple has released updates to Lion, Snow Lion, MacBook, iMac, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Apple Remote Desktop Client, Server Admin Tools, AirPort Base Station, and Time Capsule. This includes security updates. Use the Apple Updater to get these updates. A reboot is required.

Java 6u31 includes 14 distinct security updates to the Java plugin. This is an absolutely essential update if you have Java installed (and chances are very very good that you do).  This is a security update. Make sure to install BOTH the 32-bit and 64-bit updates if you’re running a 64-bit operating system. Get the updates here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Another note on Java: the current version is now 6u31. Some update software may encourage you to install a build of 7 (probably 7u2). While that is a “release” version, the 7 branch is still functionally beta software and should be avoided by non-developers.

Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6.4.634 doesn’t provide a changelog, so it should be treated as a security update. If you have Shockwave installed, download the update from:
http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

If you haven’t installed it yet (and you *should* have!), please install the Adobe Reader 10.1.2 update immediate. This is a security update, and some of the vulnerabilities patched have been known and exploited in the wild for several months.  This is a security update. A reboot is required. Use Help, Check for Updates, or download the full version here (uncheck any crapware offered):
http://get.adobe.com/reader

This is a security update. Use Help, About to get the current release.
