Hey folks!
Microsoft released 16 updates today for Windows, Office, .NET, Silverlight, MSRT and an updated Certificate Revokation List (CRL). This includes security updates. A reboot is required.
Note that among those “offers” included in the current cycle are Microsoft Security Essentials and the Bing Desktop application. If you already have a security or antivirus software you do not need (and probably should not install) Microsoft Security Essentials. You can ‘hide’ the update to prevent it from being offered again. Likewise, if you do not wish to install the Bing desktop toolbar and search service, you can ‘hide’ this option so it will not be offered again.

If you’re on Windows, ensure that you have Flash Player set to perform automatic updates (available since last month within the control panel), otherwise be sure to install this update ASAP. Important Notes
Everything above this section should be checked by everyone on every computer. Chances are good that close to every single computer you touch will be affected by those updates. This is not the case with the items below, though you should still check each line item below to see if it applies to software you have installed.
Please remember that while I list many different applications within these updates, most people should ONLY install updates for a program if they already have a previous version of that program installed.
It is essential to maintain all the applications you have installed on your computer, but often you can minimize the time investment and the potential for exploitation simply by uninstalling software you do not need.
Also note that using the applications own “check for updates” function, when available, will best preserve your current settings, and often avoid any crapware that might come with a fresh installer. Use this option if it’s available to you.

SVG support has been added, as well as a significant range of graphics and line-mode capabilities. Last but not least, the name has been changed from “OpenOffice.org” to “Apache OpenOffice” or simply “OpenOffice”, which will surely frustrate those who’ve spent the last few years publicly arguing the finer points of trademark law on those four silly characters (“.org”).

Let me take a moment here and bring to light that Adobe, who learned of these security vulnerabilities (and exploit methods) over 4 months ago, delayed releasing an update for all previous ($$$) versions of their software, opting instead to push their new subscription-ware model. Not surprisingly, they released these security notices with no fanfare and little more than a “too bad for our existing customers” the day after they “launched” CS6. Shame on you, Adobe. For everyone else, if you’re looking for a powerful graphic suite without the price tag, check out Paint.net, Gimp, and Scribus. Even more options are listed at Alternative.to.

Today Adobe updated their recent security announcement to indicate that they’ve decided to provide security updates to the most recent previous versions of Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash Professional. Adobe usually takes a couple months to release a patch, though, so expect it to come in July at the earliest. And earlier versions than CS5.x will not be supported.
