Special Considerations for Internet Explorer Users

But I *never* use Internet Explorer – certainly my system is immune from viruses that are designed for it, right?
No. It is a general misconception that if you use Netscape as your browser "instead" that you should be immune from most IE-only viruses. Unfortunately this is not so. Internet Explorer has been bundled into the operating system in some form or another since 1995. The most common Windows versions available as of this writing are Windows 98, 2000 and ME - all of which implement features of Internet Explorer directly by the operating system. Viruses can take advantage of this behavior using certain content and descriptive headers, which will cause Internet Explorer to execute the virus regardless of your "preferred" browser.
