Experts at loss over pain from cervical cancer vaccination
ajw.asahi.com
December 24, 2012

The controversial decision to withhold a government recommendation for a cervical cancer vaccination was made based on a conclusion by experts struggling to determine the causes of serious side effects.

The health ministry suspended its recommendation on June 14 after nearly 2,000 complaints of side effects, such as prolonged pain and numbness. The figure includes 357 serious cases, such as difficulties in breathing or walking and convulsions. Ministry officials said there is currently no way to fully examine or explain the causes of the side effects.

Alabama Adopts First Official State Ban on UN Agenda 21

June 4, 2012

Alabama became the first state to adopt a tough law protecting private property and due process by prohibiting any government involvement with or participation in a controversial United Nations scheme known as Agenda 21.

Activists from across the political spectrum celebrated the measure's approval as a significant victory against the UN "sustainability" plot, expressing hope that similar sovereignty-preserving measures would be adopted in other states as the nationwide battle heats up. The Alabama Senate Bill (SB) 477 legislation, known unofficially among some supporters as the "Due Process for Property Rights" Act, was approved unanimously by both the state House and Senate. After hesitating for a few days, late last month Republican Governor Robert Bentley finally signed into law the wildly popular measure - but only after heavy pressure from activists forced his hand.

Say No to SOPA

November 29, 2011

A List Apart strongly opposes United States H.R.3261 AKA the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), an ill-conceived lobbyist-driven piece of legislation that is technically impossible to enforce, cripplingly burdensome to support, and would, without hyperbole, destroy the internet as we know it.

Web Cryptography: Salted Hash and Other Tasty Dishes

One of the most powerful security tools available to web developers is cryptography-essentially a process by which meaningful information is turned into random noise, unreadable except where specifically intended.

It's tempting to think that a simple web application doesn't require industrial-strength security because it's not going to contain any information worth stealing, like credit card numbers. Unfortunately, people's tendency to reuse passwords across many different systems means that a compromise of the weakest one can often give access to the rest.

Google Bids High for Hulu

September 6, 2011

Amazon, Yahoo, and the Dish Network are lined up to buy Hulu. But Larry Page is offering an over-the-top deal.

And then there's Google. The search giant has also made an offer for the video site, but it seems to be playing a different sport than the rest of its peers: Rather than bid on what Hulu's owners have offered for sale, Google has proposed a different acquisition, on a larger scale, say people familiar with the sales process.

Cornel West calls Obama a 'coward' for favoring 'vanilla' kids of Newtown over 'chocolate' kids of Chicago

December 28, 2012

Dr. Cornel West is consistent, if nothing else. But, that's a good thing, I think, especially if one "professes" to be a truth seeker and truth teller.

On a recent episode of "The Smiley & West Show" the Princeton professor berated President Obama for his apparently heartfelt, tearful response to the mass shooting and bloodbath at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Conn., while virtually downplaying and, indeed, ignoring the now routine killings of just as many, and more, children just blocks from Obama's own doorstep in Chicago. Professor West went further than ever before this time in his criticism of the president.
