Hi, Folks!

Not to be outdone by Adobe, Apple is hot on their tails with a series of security and stability updates this week, Microsoft is telling people not to use their browser, and Adobe releases out of cycle security updates for several of their plugins. More below…

Microsoft announced on Monday that there is a security vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6 through 9 that would allow an attacker to compromise your computer. They anticipate releasing an update “soon” (probably next Tuesday), but in the meantime you should use an alternative browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Safari.

Adobe Flash Player 11.4.402.278 is a security update.

Apple released a number of updates this week:

iTunes 10.7 adds support for iOS 6 running on compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models. This update also adds support for the latest iPod nano and iPod shuffle models. This is a security update.

OS X 10.8.2 and 10.7.5 and SU 2012-004 are security updates. A reboot is required.

Safari 6.0.1 is a security update.

Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.3 is a security update.

iPhoto 9.4, Aperture 3.4, iCloud Control Panel 2, MacBook, MacBook Pro and Retina updates, improve hardware compatibility, stability and performance. This includes security updates.

Use the Apple Updater to get the most current versions of each of these.

iOS 6 (for iPhone, iPad, and iPod) is a security update, and offers a number of other improvements as well. It will gradually be released for each user, but may take hours or even days before you can download it through iTunes successfully. Microsoft released 7 updates today for Windows, RDP, IE, .NET, Office, VBA, Lync, and MS Dynamics. These are all security updates. A reboot is required.

iTunes 10.6.3 is a security update, but also provides several other fixes, including stability, performance, reliability and several bugfixes. Use the Apple Updater to get the most current version.

QuickTime 7.7.2 is a security update. Use the Apple Updater to get the most current version.

Adobe Flash Player 11.3.300.257 and Adobe AIR 3.3 are security updates that patch actively exploited vulnerabilities. Adobe has reintegrated 32- and 64-bit installers into a single package, which will simplify updates on systems built within the last 5 years. ‘Tis the season! We’re coming up on April 15th, which is typically the second-best in-store sale period of the year…second only to Black Friday. The difference is that tax season they actually have the items in stock. This is a good time to replace your WinXP or Vista computer with a Windows 7 one…or you can wait until October and get on with Windows 8. Around August OEM vendors will start providing a certificate with new computers that provides a free upgrade to Windows 8 when it’s released.
